Bold Pattern

I'm feeling bold and visible this week. We are part of an art show at the University opening next week so I've been thinking about what to wear. This isn't a black tie event but rather a casual evening where we stand by our art meeting artists and students. I need to look creative, approachable and comfortable.  My art is detailed and colorful so this dress with a zig zag pattern caught my eye and at a reduced price even better. I also plan to wear it with cream tights and silver pumps for a more glamorous effect.

If you didn't see the post by Catherine of Not Dressed as Lamb on blogging after 40, take a look. She writes clearly about the many advantages of being part of the 40+ blogging community and states the many reasons personal styling gets better with age. I'm so excited to meet other women who know life is still going strong after 40!

  7. Love it and that you are feeling bold. It must be the excitement and energy coming out, as the art show approaches. You look stunning in the outfit and I like the idea on cream tights and silver shoes. You will have to post that combination.
I just attended a seminar recently and the speaker mentioned how at 50 it used to be the down hill slope but now it is the up hill climb. People are reinventing themselves and starting new businesses, etc. I'm thankful, since I will be 49 in just a couple of week.

  8. All I can say is WOW!! I love this zingy outfit which looks sensational against the red brick background. BCBG should pay you to model their clothes because you look great in everything you wear from them. You are definitely right about the over 40 blogging community showing that there is life after 40. I speak from a perspective of one barely still in her 60s but more interested in style and looking great than ever before!

    1. Thanks Rebecca, I do adore so many of pieces by BCBG especially the jackets and knit items. They make so many options each season for all ages. It is exciting to think about aging with style. Redefining what middle age looks like is an interesting proposition for many of us isn't it?!

  14. Ann, your dress is very similar to the Trina Turk "dress" I wore earlier this week. How bold of you to wear it with the blue bag and booties. As always...you look great! Here is the link to the similar outfit - http://sowhattotwenty.blogspot.com/2014/01/dress.html#.UtYMMPvDt_c

  15. Lovely bold outfit! The brown tones sort of warm up and soften the geometric pattern. And dark blue is a nice and unexpected accent.

I hope your art show goes well. I wish I could be there - I'd love to see it close up!

  21. As an artist, your life must be full of social events and that requires the right outfit! The dress that you are wearing is pretty and modern. It has an unusual pattern, which seems a picture itself! It's perfect for the show!! I think that students will love you!!

    1. I do have some events but really not as many as you would think. Many days I just just colored jeans, a cotton sweater and a down coat when I'm at the studio. I do like to dress in something unusual for shows, colorful or patterned. I guess something that isn't conservative or as classic as I would normally wear.

  22. Although the cowl is not the star of the show, I just have to comment on how cuddly it looks. Seriously, I'd want to wear it to bed, it just looks so soft and cozy.

I really appreciate the use of navy accessories in your outfit! These little nuances don't go unnoticed!

    1. Yes this cowl is soft. I was looking through the sale pile of scarfs and this stood out as nice so I picked it up. it's been so cold here this month it might be a good idea to wear it to bed!

    1. Thanks Greetje, just ran out of time to get the picture with outfit a coat. Maybe as spring comes I will post this dress again. It's been pretty cold here, I should say really cold until recently. I think this dress would look best worn in a minimal way with the light tights and silver pumps. It been hard to get outside without a coat.

  34. You are stunning and bold, as usual. I love the print- and the way each piece looks so well put together but not a whiff of matchy matchy. I'm afraid your amazing handbag has distracted me from your shoes! You rock!

  38. Well, you achieved your sartorial goal ... artistic, approachable and comfy. And, as always pretty as can be. Excellent jacket, and I'll bet the dress beneath is ready for complete reveal if the party gets warm. Since I can't be the first to pun on "smokin" then I'll just have to declare that "Nobody puts Ann in the corner!"
